Mission Work In 2006 Quaker celebrated 25 years of involvement in foreign missions. That same year the congregation was recognized for its mission work at the World Mission Workshop held at Lubbock Christian University. The African mission work was also recognized at the North American Christian Convention in Lexington, Ky. During those 25 years hundreds of churches have been established in Kenya and Uganda. A children's home was constructed housing up to 40 orphans, and a Bible training instititute, Messiah Theological Institute has been established in Mbale, Uganda, training hundreds of christians from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Sudan. Plans are now underway for a full fledged African christian university and a new mission outpost has been established in the country of Sudan. A history of the mission work is available by contacting the church office at Quaker Avenue. Also, in recognition of the 25th anniversary, a small group study booklet was developed, "More Than We Ever Dreamed" which emphasizes several important spiritual life principles learned over the years in our mission work. Booklets are available for $7 each.
